PROFILE
It's not often that a person can become successful in two careers in one lifetime. Michael G. Henes, D.V.M. has done just that. After creating and building the Croton Animal Hospital in 1973, Dr. Henes achieved remarkable success as a small animal veterinarian and director of an American Animal Hospital Association certified hospital.
Throughout the years, Dr. Henes has nurtured a lifelong love and fascination with photography, shooting constantly, taking many courses, and studying with masters of the profession.
After selling the hospital in 2000, he was able to leave behind the stress-laden business part of the profession, while continuing to take pleasure in being a "pure" veterinarian, practicing medicine and surgery. With this newfound free time, Dr. Henes was finally able to to pursue his lifelong dream of developing a parallel career in photography.
For as long as he can remember, his camera has been "at the ready" for spontaneous shots of his own pets as well as portraits of those passing through the animal hospital doors. His vast collection of photos includes pets of all shapes and sizes, and in all places throughout the world. While not zoomed in on four legged creatures, another of his favorite focus points is photographs of landscapes and nature photography.
The realization of his hopes and dreams is the development of his pet photography hobby into a business, "shooting" pets, with or without their people,in their own environment. His style is to greet and meet his subjects, to take time to make them feel comfortable and confident with his presence, to blend in with the scenery, and to "shoot" away. His many satisfied customers attest to the success of this method.
Exhibits of his work can be found throughout Westchester County.
